SC Delegation Promoting Hydrogen Efforts in Germany
Group Promotes SC's Strength in Hydrogen, Fuel Cell Research
Munich, Germany -- While South
Carolina is hosting the Fuel South Conference in Columbia this week, a South
Carolina Commerce Department delegation is attending along with thousands of
international guests the world's premiere Hydrogen and Fuel Cell event in
Hannover, Germany. This event is being staged in conjunction with the
largest industrial automation fair in the world, Hannover Messe
2006.
This is the 12th annual Hydrogen + Fuel Cell event at Hannover and
attracts the world's leading industries and organizations who are participating
in the new hydrogen economy. The Group Exhibit Hydrogen + Fuel Cells in Energy
Hall 13 at the HANNOVER FAIR 2006 offers a unique opportunity to touch and test
many new products and to enter into dialogue with 125 exhibitors, Forum
participants and Hydrogen Ambassadors from 32 countries.
HANNOVER MESSE
is the ideal place to obtain the latest industrial know-how. Established almost
60 years ago, the Hannover Fair today ranks as the leading international
showplace for industrial technologies, materials and product ideas. More than
5,000 exhibitors from over 60 countries take part at HANNOVER MESSE 2006 on a
display area of almost 500,000 square feet.
"As we cultivate and seek to
grow the hydrogen and fuel cell economy in South Carolina, we need to reach out
to the world and communicate the great things going on back home,” said
Secretary of Commerce Joe Taylor. “By attending events like this, we are
planting the seeds for further growth and are trying to put South Carolina on
the global radar screen when hydrogen and fuel cell related companies consider
new places to make investments and carry out research."
Coordinated through
Commerce's European office in Munich, Germany,
the South Carolina delegation includes representatives from the South Carolina
Department of Commerce, South Carolina Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Alliance, SC Center for
Hydrogen Research, and the Savannah River National Laboratory. The University of
South Carolina's National Science Foundation/Fuel Cell Center is also in
attendance exhibiting for the first time at the event.
"South Carolina can
be, and perhaps already is, a major player in the international fuel cell and
hydrogen economy. The Hannover exhibition brings together companies from
around the world," said Fred Humes, Chairman of the South Carolina Hydrogen and Fuel
Cell Alliance. “Our goal at the exhibition is not only to increase awareness
about South Carolina’s activities in this area, but to become more aware of what
the rest of the world is doing and to see what partnerships might be
possible. Attendance at the show has convinced me that our state’s
capabilities and expertise is world-class and we can make a real contribution to
the global hydrogen economy.”
In addition to several pre-scheduled
meetings with company executives at the conference, the state delegation will
also participate in the Conference Forum Program where exhibitors and invited
industry leaders share their vision, mission or introduce their latest
achievements through an interview-style format facilitated by a skilled
moderator. Among firms sharing their story are Delphi, Siemens, Hydro, Honda,
Hydrogenics, IdaTech, Plug Power & Fraunhofer Institute for Solar
Energy.
